John 12:20-26

Some Greeks Seek Jesus
20 Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. 21 So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

Sermon Notes:

Thinking Biblically to Live Holy

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” –John 20:30-31

John 12:20-26 – The Gospel For All of Life (pt 1)

The Call of the Gospel
Matthew 10:37, “He that loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me.” Did you hear that? “He that love son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. He that takes not up his cross and follows after Me is not worthy of Me. He that finds his life shall lose it. He that loses his life for My sake shall find it.”

Matthew 16:24 says, “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me, for whosoever will save His life shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it.”

Mark 8:34, “And when He had called the people to Him with His disciples, He said to them, ‘Whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.'”

Luke 9:23 “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

Luke 17:32-33 “Remember Lot’s wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.” You abandon your life to Jesus Christ and you’ll save it.

If all you want is glory and honor and a kingdom and all the splendor of a “golden age” you’ll lose everything. But, if you’re willing to take up your cross and follow Jesus Christ and suffer for Him and with Him, then you’ll be exalted and glorified.

It’s absolutely important, beloved, to understand that no man truthfully becomes a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ if he’s not willing to give up everything he is for the sake of the gospel.
