“The Lord’s Prayer” (pt 3) John 17:13-19
Outline:
1. Affection (v.13)
But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.
2. Persecution (v.14)
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
3. Preservation (v.15)
I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.
4. Separation (v.16)
They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
5. Sanctification (v.17)
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
6. Mission (v.18)
As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
7. Consecration (v.19)
And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

John 17:13-19
But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. Sanctification: set apart for holy service.

Not just messengers, but messages!
Jn 20:21, Acts 1:8, Roms 15:20.
Here sanctification means holy service of sacrifice. Jesus is referring to the cross.
