Sermon Text:

John 3:16-21

16 “For God so loved the world, [9] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Today’s Message (John 3:18-20):
The Reason for Our Redemption – The Nature of Absolute Inability:

Man is a sinner before a holy God. Not because he commits acts of sin; but because he is by nature… sinful. All people are completely incapable and unable to come to Jesus Christ and confess Him as Lord for their salvation because of their sinful condition.

Consider this: all people are conceived in sin (Psalm 51:5); all people are sinners and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23); all suppress the truth of God in unrighteousness (Romans 1:19); all are alienated from the life of God (Col. 1:21); all are unable to repent and believe on their own (2 Cor. 7:10; Titus 1:15-16); all are wicked and desire the will of their father who is Satan (John 8:43-44); all are sons of disobedience (Eph. 2:2); all have minds that are at enmity against God (Romans 8:5-8); all are slaves to the world, the flesh and the devil (1 John (1 John 2:15-17; 3:8); and all are by nature children of wrath (Eph. 2:3).

1. Depravity (Gen 6:5-6; Psalm 143:2; Proverbs 20:9; Jer. 13:23-24; 17:6-10; Romans 8:5-8; Eph. 2:1-3; Phil. 3:17-19)

2. Darkness (John 3:18-20; John 8:12; John 12:35; 12:46; Acts 26:18; Eph. 5:8-11; Col. 1:13; 1 Peter 2:9; Jude 1:10-14)

3. Disobedience (Matt. 7:22-23; Romans 5:17-19; 6:15-22; Eph. 2:2; 5:6; Colossians 3:6-7; Romans 3:10-18)

Therefore… For Whom Did Christ Die?

(John 1:12-13; 3:6.7; 15-16; Acts 13:48; Romans 8:28-31; 2 Cor. 7:10; Eph. 1:3-14; Eph. 2:8-9; 2 Tim. 1:9; Titus 3:4-7; 1 Peter 1:2)

Jesus is a far greater Savior than you are a sinner!
